Grocery Budgets!

Many oilfield families have to budget during layoffs and downtime or simply manage money until the next pay period.  So here is a list of meals that you can utilize during these tough times.  Less than $2o for a week of meals.

Meal planning can take experience and just taking advantage of sales at your local food markets.

My first suggestion is to buy a large pack of chicken thighs which are usually about $1.00/lb.  If you have enoough in your

budget you can buy a large family pack of chicken fajita thighs from your local HEB which usually is about $12.00 to $15.00 a package.  Another suggestion is buying a 20 lb chub of ground meat.  Now that you have your meat to work with.  Here are some ideas to use these meat options.

SMOOTHIES!!  Who doesn't like a protein filled smoothie on a hot summer morning?  I'll be honest, when I first thought of drinking protein smoothies, I was not excited at all.  But now, I can't wait to have my regular smoothie!  I have gotten creative with my recipes, which has helped tremendously.  The key is to not get so overwhelmed with trying to do it right.  You really can't mess this up.  Protein shakes help balance our metabolism and give you the extra energy you need in the morning.  It also helps us with resisting cravings throughout the day and is a good weight management plan.  There are many proteins out there.  The important thing is to find one that you like and has the right nutrition for your body.  Females should stick with a vegan protein shake, my favorite is Love and Peas by Nature's Sunshine Products it is a blend of pea protein and nourishing whole foods.  It is free from: common allergens, dairy, lactose, & gluten.  It has 20 grams of protein per serving with an antioxidant blend.  Another favorite of mine is Le-Vel's Thrive "Premium Lifestyle Mix".   THRIVE Mix is the finishing touch to the only Ultra Premium Product Line available — THRIVE. This ultra micronized mix was perfectly designed to complement Le-Vel's THRIVE Lifestyle Capsules. Their blend of Vitamins, Minerals, Plant Extracts, Anti-Oxidants, Enzymes, Pro-Biotics, and Amino Acids is the first and only Ultra Premium Mix ever developed. THRIVE Mix combined daily with the THRIVE Capsules, completes a premium lifestyle, and a premium you. If the saying "not all shakes are created equal" holds true, then the ultra micronized : Premium Lifestyle Mix, is in a category all by itself. Live more, be more, experience more, THRIVE for more with THRIVE Mix.  Both of these protein mixes taste great and are good for  both men and women.  Men usually want to gain muscle mass so they may prefer a whey protein.  These are just suggestions and Le-Vel has a complete line of supplements that compliment one another.

Jen's Power Green Recipe:   I like to use Almond Milk Light Vanilla usually about 6 oz, 1-2 scoops of protein, a handful of berries (your choice), half of banana, a handful of spinach & kale, 1 scoop of chia seeds, 1 scoop of flax seed, and ice!  Blend it up in your Ninja or blender and it is Delicious!!
Feel free to try and experiment with your smoothie recipes!
